Privacy

This is a personal, non-commercial website. It exists to share writing and ideas—not to sell products, run ads, or build marketing profiles.

No tracking cookies are used. First-party analytics and engagement run only on this site. If you register or log in to comment, a single HttpOnly session cookie is set so you stay signed in (not for advertising).

What we collect when you browse. On public pages, a small script may record path, referrer, a pseudonymous id in localStorage (au_vid), language, platform, screen and viewport size, timezone, basic device and network signals (for example connection type when the browser exposes them), and preferences such as colour scheme. The server may also store IP address, approximate location from the network edge (country/city/ASN), and user-agent details. Engagement may include time on page, max scroll depth, and outbound link hosts. We do not use geolocation, camera, microphone, or notification prompts, and we do not run advertising or remarketing tags.

Accounts and comments. Optional registration stores a username and password hash only—no email. Comments store username, text, and timestamps. IPs may be used briefly for rate limiting and abuse prevention.

Retention. Detailed anonymous event trails are kept about 14 days, then pruned. Aggregated daily stats and activity tied to a registered account may be kept longer for history. You may object to processing or ask about deletion of data linked to your client id or username via LinkedIn or X.

Hosting. The site runs on Cloudflare’s network, which processes requests (including IP) to deliver pages. Processing is based on legitimate interest in understanding readership and keeping the site secure (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)).
